Meetings, workshops and other events offer you chances throughout the year to learn more about trends and issues, enhance your skills and develop relationships with your colleagues across the division.

January

Coffee and Collaboration is an event that aims to promote networking with colleagues and exposure to different offices and departments across the division. The first department to host this semesters Coffee and Collaborations is the Leadership & Service Center. All division staff are invited to stop by the LSC. Coffee will be provided and attendees are encouraged to bring their own mugs, though cups will still be provided for your convenience.

When: Monday, January 13th from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (coffee will be provided)

At the beginning of each semester, New Employee Orientation helps new employees create connections across the division, chat with the division’s associate vice presidents and learn about professional development opportunities available to them through the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support.

When: Tuesday, January 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (breakfast will be provided)
Where: Thomas Cooper Library Hollings Program Room

In this workshop, we will lay out the impact of our annual giving day, Give4Garnet, and the success the Division saw last March. Join us to learn how your office can participate, or to expand on your efforts from last year!

The University of South Carolina strives to incorporate sustainability into the daily lives of students, faculty and staff to support the university's growth towards a more sustainable future. This session is an introduction to environmentally friendly workplaces, aiming to educate faculty and staff members on how to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives.

Attendees will learn the background of the Green Office Certification process and what steps their office will need to take to incorporate the program into their workplace and successfully achieve the certification threshold. Successful completion of the program will require additional time following the training to educate their office of the sustainable changes being made.

When: Wednesday, January 29th from 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

When you sign up for the Division Duos program, you can choose to serve as a mentor, mentee or both. You can also share your interests, experiences and goals to help organizers choose your mentoring match.

February

Campus Recreation is one of the top spaces where male students are actively engaged—but how can we extend that connection to other areas of campus life?

Join us for an engaging brainstorming session to explore innovative ways to leverage the success of recreational programs and drive male engagement across academic, social, and leadership opportunities on campus.

This is a 120 minute comprehensive training that includes suicide prevention, instruction on how to recognize and respond to signs of distress in students. The goal of this training is to engage staff as mental health allies and help them learn the basic components of suicide prevention, enhance knowledge of campus mental health resources, and rapid assessment and referral of students in distress. Participants will learn how to intervene at the mild, moderate, and severe levels of distress and how to refer students to appropriate resources as needed.

The Professional Development Team invites staff to nominate their peers, supervisors, employees, and colleagues for Division Awards each spring. Winners are recognized at the annual awards ceremony, which will be held on Tuesday, April 29th. All Student Affairs and Academic Support employees are eligible to nominate their colleagues and to be nominated for awards themselves.
