Research Visits

A visit to the coastal facility begins with a reservation, even for a day trip.  Reservations should be made well in advance of your preferred research dates to ensure that the laboratory space, lodging, meeting facilities, equipment, boats, vehicles and staff are available. 

Research Requests & Proposals

All research projects in the North Inlet Estuary and on the Hobcaw Barony property must be approved by the Baruch Institute and the Belle W. Baruch Foundation prior to initiating the project. Information about the application process, including the required Research Proposal Form, can can be obtained from the Baruch Foundation.

Completed Research Proposal Forms, along with general inquiries and/or questions concerning the application process, should be directed to the BMFL Research Specialist (bruce@baruch.sc.ed).

Reservation & Rates

Reservations are required to do any field work on the Hobcaw Barony property regardless of the amount of time you will stay.  Fees are charged for lodging and conference facilities, laboratory space and equipment, boats and vehicles, and some services.  Basic laboratory equipment and non-expendable supplies are included with laboratory space rental. There is no charge for orientation to the site and programs. See current reservations & rates.

Collecting Permits

Collecting and/or activities that the public normally would not be allowed to do require a permit from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR, Charleston, 803-795-6350). Contact SCDNR well in advance of your trip to secure any needed permits.
