Experience a first-rate evening of classic and contemporary ballet featuring an original work by Susan E. Anderson Artist-in-Residence Kathryn Morgan (New York City Ballet), a reprise of works set on the Betsy Blackmon Dance Company by The Joffrey Ballet last April (including Gerald Arpino’s Birthday Variations and Camellia by Xavier Núñez), plus original works by USC dance faculty Jennifer Deckert and André Megerdichian.

Under the direction of instructors Olivia Waldrop and Christopher Anderson, our student choreographers will present a program of cutting-edge original works which each has conceived, designed and directed. This bi-annual showcase is a not-to-miss opportunity to see the innovative artistry of these talented dance artists!

A poetic adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, translated from its authentic Latin by USC History Professor Andrew Berns and driven by movement and text alike, Orpheus navigates ancient landscapes in the context of our own time. Directed by Berns and Associate Professor of Dance André Megerdichian, this unique collaboration between USC Theatre and the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program is being created with theatre and dance faculty Jennifer Deckert, Marybeth Gorman Craig, Lauren Wilson, and Dustin Whitehead, featuring an ensemble of theatre and dance students accompanied by musical director/composer Amos Hoffman, an internationally renowned Israeli jazz guitarist and oud player. Initially inspired by the collaborative work of Kate Joyce and Andrew Berns: Metamorphoses (Special Problems Press, 2021).

 

Limón Dance Company in Concert with Betsy Blackmon Dance Company

Celebrating its 80th Anniversary season, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of dance since its inception, and is world-renowned for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive movement. Company Artists will be in-residence at USC setting a classic Limón work on the Betsy Blackmon Dance Company, who will perform on an unforgettable, one-night-only program alongside Limón Dance Company and artists from The Joffrey Ballet. A gala fundraiser will accompany the performance.
