Biography

 Dr. Alan Sechtin joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2014 as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology. Dr. Sechtin served the Florence Regional Campus as Assistant Dean for Medical Students Education in 2020 and then became the Associate Dean for Medical Student Education in 2023.

He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and initially completed a Family Medicine residency at Self Memorial Hospital. After a year and a half in practice, Dr. Sechtin then began a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Pennsylvania State University, serving as Chief Resident in his last year.

Before joining the School of Medicine, Dr. Sechtin served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in the Radiology Department as a Clinical Professor of Radiology.  He has also held the roles of partner and co-director of breast imaging in private practice. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Sechtin’s work has focused on compassionate evidence-based patient care, advancing medical education for all members of the healthcare community, and helping to create the next generation of physician/physician leaders.
