Nurse-Midwifery

The Nurse-Midwifery (NM) program prepares students to provide reproductive health and primary care for people throughout their lifespans, with a special emphasis on pregnancy, childbirth and gynecologic health

Application Deadline

Applications are accepted November 1 – April 15 for fall entry only. Your application and all required items must be submitted before the deadline. 

 

As a Nurse-Midwifery student, online coursework and hands-on training will provide you with a strong foundation in patient wellness and prevention as well as the knowledge and skills to provide family planning, gynecologic, preconception, prenatal, childbirth and newborn care.

Upon program completion, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Nurse-Midwife certification exam administered through the American Midwifery Certification Board.

Our graduates will have the opportunity to be employed in a variety of settings ranging from outpatient care settings, rural practices and inpatient hospital practices.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited program.
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted, whether you received a degree or not. Applicants who attended a BSN program that issued pass or fail grades for all classes will not be considered a competitive applicant.
  • Minimum of 2400 hours of nursing experience within the past 24 months. This includes full time or part time nursing experience. Required clinical experience in labor and delivery.
  • Submit a personal statement.
  • Current CV or Resume.
  • Three professional references - The professional recommendation form should come from individuals with a master’s or higher in a health care field who can evaluate your potential for success in a graduate program. (Letters of recommendation cannot be used in lieu of our recommendation form). Recommendations from family members are not appropriate. 
  • Copy of unencumbered RN license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current NRP certification.

The MSN-NM accepts students for fall entry. We recommend applying early for the best chance for admission and scholarship eligibility.

Financial aid is available. To determine your eligibility, complete the FAFSA form on the university’s Financial Aid website. The College of Nursing also offers general scholarships. In addition, other scholarship and financial aid opportunities are available through The Graduate School and the university’s Financial Aid and Scholarships office.
