Research and Teaching Interests
Prof. Matchin directs the NeuroSyntax Laboratory, which investigates the neurobiological
foundations of human language using functional neuroimaging and lesion-symptom mapping.
His work focuses on syntax and sentence processing, seeking to bridge linguistic theory
with neuroscience and language disorders, chiefly aphasia. He teaches foundational
courses in speech, language, and neuroscience at the undergraduate, master's, and
doctoral levels. He is also an Affiliate Faculty member in the Linguistics and Neuroscience
Programs.
