Student Organizations
Student organizations offer opportunities for additional community service and leadership. Whether you are an undergraduate or a graduate student, you can find a group that is a great fit for you.
Phi Alpha is the internationally recognized honor society for social work students, created to foster academic excellence, promote humanitarian ideals, and strengthen connections among future social workers. The Xi Tau Chapter at the University of South Carolina offers students and alumni opportunities for networking, community engagement, professional development, and recognition. Membership is a distinguished honor that reflects both academic achievement and dedication to the values of the profession. Eligibility requires completion of at least 15 credit hours in your degree program (BSW, MSW or PhD) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. New members are inducted each spring semester.
The Undergraduate Social Work Student Association was created to promote and empower social work students to achieve their goals of achieving social justice and change. We also use this organization as an opportunity to connect students from all four undergraduate cohorts to share stories, experiences and aspirations regarding their careers and hobbies in social work. We provide volunteer events, networking opportunities and general advice regarding the BSW program.

The purpose of SWSA shall be to provide students in the University of South Carolina Master of Social Work Program with professional, service and social activities. Through providing such activities, this organization aims to foster a community among MSW students while promoting humanitarian values. We intend to provide a space where students can come together to support one another.
The BSWSA is an organization committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for social workers of color. We prioritize creating a safe space where individuals can express themselves freely, share their experiences and connect with others who understand the unique challenges they face. Our initiatives focus on providing essential support through mentorship, resources and networking opportunities to empower members in their professional journeys.
In addition to supporting our members, we are deeply dedicated to giving back to the community. This commitment is reflected in our ongoing partnerships, including donations to Homeless No More and volunteering with Hush No More for their annual domestic violence walk.
