About the Center for Financial Institutions (CFI)

The center enhances the position of the Moore School as a global thought leader in addressing the educational and research needs of practitioners, students, and faculty in the areas of banking, financial systems, capital markets and the real economy.

The Finance Department focuses strategically on researching financial institutions, with over a third of its faculty engaged in cutting-edge work in this field. With numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and research-inspired books, the department is recognized globally for its thought leaders. The department also trains Ph.D. students to become future leaders in their field. The center aims to enhance the department's reputation by improving the quality and quantity of financial institutions research and expanding its communication. Additionally, the department has successfully organized the Financial Institutions and Fixed Income (FIFI) Conference for over a decade.

CFI also focuses on student experience through various events and organizations. In the past, the center has supported student case competitions, trips to conferences, industry leader speaker events, Carolina Finance Scholars and student organizations such as the Women in Business Council and CFIA.
