South Carolina Cello Choir

Professionals, amateurs, teachers and students from around South Carolina and the Southeast region take part in this musical celebration, learning from internationally renowned clinicians and music faculty.

2026 SC Cello Choir at USC School of Music

The American String Teachers Association (ASTA) South Carolina Cello Choir and Workshop is for cellists of all ages and ability levels. The annual Cello Choir has taken place every September since its inception at the University of South Carolina in 1980. The event alternates between the University of South Carolina and Furman University.

2026 Guest Artist & Clinician

Hailed a “firebrand” (IncidentLight.com) and noted for her “supreme panache” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer), cellist and Sphinx Medal of Excellence winner Christine Lamprea made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in 2013. She has since performed with orchestras such as the Costa Rica National Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, and San Antonio Symphony, among others. In demand as a chamber musician, she is the cellist of Ensemble Ember and has performed with such musicians as Shmuel Ashkenasi, Sarah Chang, Itzhak Perlman, Roger Tapping, and Carol Wincenc. Ms. Lamprea serves as cello faculty at the Longy School of Music, the College of Fine Arts at Boston University, and the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University.
