Events for Alumni

We have various events planned throughout the year for alumni to attend, from Homecoming to lectures to social gatherings. We’d love to see you there! You’ll find the latest event details on this page.

Homecoming

We usually host an event for CIC alumni on the Friday evening of Homecoming. Stay tuned for details for 2025!

iSchool Alumni Happy Hours

Each year, there are two librarian conferences held at the Columbia Convention Center: SCASL in March and SCLA in October. We hold happy hour events in conjunction with these conferences one day after the conference sessions.

The Baldwin Business and Financial Journalism Lecture Series

This is an annual lecture series that started in 2015 and brings accomplished business and financial journalists to share their expertise. The lectures are funded by the Baldwin Business and Financial Journalism Endowment, given by the late Kenneth W. Baldwin Jr.  A 1949 graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Baldwin funded the endowment in 2009 to equip students with a depth of knowledge to investigate and report on the most significant and complex business and financial topics that affect consumers and taxpayers.

The Buchheit Family Lecture Series

This is an annual lecture series that was created in 2000 in honor of the late Phil Buchheit, who was the former president and chairman of Mid-South Management Company and the former publisher of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. The lectures are funded by the Buchheit Family Endowment, which provides undergraduate scholarships and graduate and doctoral fellowships to students of the university’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
