                                       Jelani Cobb, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, journalist, historian and dean of Columbia

                                       Michelle Martin, Beverly Cleary Endowed Professor in Children and Youth Services in

                                       Journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the landmark 1619 Project, was the joint
                                          keynote speaker for the 2021 virtual Media & Civil Rights History Symposium and the
                                          College of Information and Communications Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Research

                                          2019 Symposium with Keynote Speaker Dr. Andrew C. Billings
                                          
                                       
                                       This year’s event focused on social justice and youth education, civil rights history,
                                          gender and race in sports, race, class, and sexuality in media and team sports, personality

                                          2018 Symposium with Keynote Speaker Dr. Nicole Cooke
                                          
                                       
                                       Dr. Cooke's research focuses on diversity and social justice in librarianship. Cooke
                                          is the 2017 recipient of the American Library Association Achievement in Library Diversity
                                          Research Award and the 2016 recipient of the ALA Equality Award and the Larine Y.
                                          Cowan Make a Difference Award for Teaching and Mentoring in Diversity.
