The Blatt PE Center pool will be closed, all day:
Patrons should enter through the Blatt PE Center main entrance and scan their physical Carolina Card
Please note: As a result of these renovations, swim lessons will not be offered this summer.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve and enhance our aquatics spaces.
Campus Recreation members
I hope this message finds you well—in good physical and mental health, and with a strong sense of overall well-being.
Thank you for your continued participation in and support of Campus Recreation. Your involvement is central to our mission of providing meaningful recreation and wellness opportunities for the USC community. I’m writing today to share important updates regarding upcoming Campus Recreation facility projects. These initiatives will impact access to our programs and services over the summer and into the Fall 2025 semester. The STWFC has served our campus community for over two decades, supporting thousands in their fitness and wellness journeys. As the facility has aged, many of its systems and operational components have deteriorated, necessitating critical upgrades and improvements. Since my arrival in February 2024, it has become increasingly clear that enhancements are needed across multiple areas of Campus Recreation. We’re now entering a pivotal phase where long-overdue projects are ready to move forward. These improvements will ensure our facilities remain functional, efficient, and sustainable—so we can continue to serve you well into the future.
Beginning this week, we will launch multiple projects focused on both our indoor and outdoor pools. The indoor pool will close for the summer starting in May to allow for the installation of new mechanical and lighting systems, repairs to critical components affecting pool operations, accessibility improvements, and a general refresh of the space after more than 20 years of continuous use. This work will also affect the sauna, spa, parking, and a commonly used entry point. We recognize these closures and temporary inconveniences may disrupt your routine. However, they are essential to improving the quality and longevity of our facilities. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move through these important upgrades. We’ll keep you informed with regular updates throughout the project. Additionally, short-term repairs and upgrades to the outdoor pool will begin in the coming week. This work is scheduled to occur in coordination with the indoor pool project to minimize disruption during the summer months, when fewer patrons are on campus. While this may temporarily change your typical experience, it is necessary to ensure the pool continues to meet the needs of the community. We anticipate the outdoor pool work will be completed by the end of June, and updates will be shared via our website.
Several other projects at the Wellness & Fitness Center are also scheduled to begin this summer. These include a much-needed modernization of the facility’s elevators and the installation of updated fitness equipment throughout the building. In addition, we are in the early planning stages of a roofing and exterior renovation project to improve the overall condition and sustainability of the facility. Please stay tuned for announcements and updates regarding these efforts. All of these projects are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a high-quality facility and enhancing the experience of our users. Our goal is to keep all projects on schedule and minimize disruption to regular programs and services. When necessary, we will make every effort to provide alternative options for services that may be temporarily affected. We are excited to move into this new phase of growth and development, and we hope you share our enthusiasm for these long-awaited improvements—even as they bring temporary challenges.
We again appreciate your patience and support. If you have any questions about these projects, your membership, or anything related to Campus Recreation, please don’t hesitate to contact us at sacamrec@mailbox.sc.edu or visit sc.edu/campusrec for more information and updates.
Thank you for your time and continued good health!
