Hike @ Congaree National Park Hike

Join ORec on a hike to South Carolinas only National Park! Expect a short, beginner-friendly hike on an elevated  boardwalk through an old growth forest. All abilities are welcome! Bring your lunch, water, and comfortable shoes. Transportation to and from campus will be provided. 

Kayak Saluda River to Dam

This trip is a beginner level excursion meant for individuals of all skill levels. Whether you are new to Paddlesports or an expert, you are more than welcome to participate. This trip is a 2 mile paddle up the Saluda river, and provides a fantastic opportunity to practice your kayaking skills, explore the Saluda, and gain a rare view of the Lake Murray Dam. Transportation and equipment are provided along with ORec Staff to help you focus on enjoying your time on the water. Grab a friend or two and make sure to sign up early! 

Paddleboarding @ Lake Murray Stand Up

Never touched a paddle before? Want to learn how to Stand up Paddleboard? Come out to Lake Murray with Outdoor Recreation for our SUP clinic on flatwater. Practice paddling skills, maneuvering on the board, learning gear and outfitting, and applying it all by exploring the lake! Transportation is provided as well as, equipment, and ORec Staff to help you focus on enjoying your time in and around the water. Grab a friend or two and make sure to sign up early!  

Boyd Island Walk

Get to know your city through a 3 mile round trip walk to Boyd Island. Sitting at the confluence of the Broad and Saluda rivers, this island is reached via a wide, paved riverwalk path and ends with an impressive view of both rivers. Transportation to and from the riverwalk is provided.

Come out on our 201-level kayak trip to work on your sit-on-top kayak skills and explore the Saluda rapids. Learn more about crossing and navigating rapids, as well as having some easy paddling sections to sit back and enjoy the water! Transportation is provided as well as equipment and ORec Staff to help you focus on enjoying your time in and around the water. Grab a friend or two and make sure to sign up early!     

Paddlebparding @ Congaree River Stand Up

Come out with ORec on our 201-level paddleboarding excursion to the Congaree River. This is an excellent chance to get out on the river and enjoy the outdoors. It is encouraged to have some experience on a paddleboard but will be a relaxing way to ease back into your skills! Bring some snacks for our stop at the lazy river rock, where you can get to know new friends and watch wildlife. Transportation is provided as well as, equipment, and ORec Staff to help you focus on enjoying your time in and around the water. Grab a friend or two and make sure to sign up early! 

Kayaing or Paddleboarding @ Goodale State Park

Choose your watercraft (kayak or SUP) on this paddling adventure following Goodale State Park’s canoe trail through a flooded cypress forest. Geared towards those comfortable on a SUP or kayak or want to improve at maneuvering down a narrow canoe path. ORec provides equipment, trip leaders, and transportation.  

Sassafras Mountain Highpoint Hike

Come hike to the top of the highest point in South Carolina! We’ll follow the Foothills trail 2.5 miles uphill to reach the summit of Sassafras and enjoy impressive views of the surrounding mountains. This is a challenging hike, but doable for beginners in good physical shape.  Bring your lunch, water, and good hiking shoes and we’ll provide the rest.  

What You Need to Know

  • Trips are open to all USC students, faculty and staff.
  • All trips will only require beginner skill levels, unless otherwise noted.
  • Basic health history form will be required for trip participants.
  • No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.

Refunds & Fee Assistance 

You must cancel at least 7 days prior to the trip to get a refund. After that, no refunds will be given.

We will give you a full refund if the trip is canceled due to low registration, weather or other extenuating circumstances. No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.
