Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Brooklyn Niravong

Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?

I chose USC because of the vast experiential opportunities. I am a hands-on learner, so I wanted to make sure the law school I chose had many opportunities to learn in the field in practice areas I was interested in. The fact that USC has so many clinics and an externship program stood out to me. The proximity of USC to government and state offices was appealing because they were accessible to students. Ultimately, when I came to Admitted Students Day, the clinic presentation by Professor Suski convinced me to finally choose USC. The opportunities USC provides for hand-on learning are unparalleled.

What advice would you give a first-year law student?

Take care of yourself! Law school will be such a learning curve and will test you in a myriad of ways. It is essential to find a balance that works for you that helps you maintain your sense of self beyond being a law student. Your mental health will thank you that you didn't give up your hobbies completely when you started school.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am proud to serve on the executive board of the SC Asian Law Student Association. I am so proud of my Asian heritage and grateful for the opportunity to help lead this organization.
