Who is Moot Court for?
Moot Court is for students interested in:
- Learning and adopting the principles of appellate advocacy;
- Enhancing analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills;
- Participating in intramural competitions at the Law School;
- Representing the Law School at regional and national extramural competitions; and
- Understanding the high standards of professionalism required for our state and federal appellate courts.
Each year, the Moot Court Bar accepts new members from the rising 2L class through an internal entrance competition. While the Moot Court Bar primarily focuses on appellate advocacy, a specific interest in appellate work is not required or necessary to join the program. The skills students learn through Moot Court, including oral communication skills, can be utilized in all areas of practice.
Being a member of Moot Court was hands down the best experience of my law school career. From honing my skills through priority placement in Appellate Advocacy to competing in internal and external competitions, and even arguing before the South Carolina Supreme Court, Moot Court gave me the tools necessary to start my career as a litigator.
